What kind of software mill do you work at?

Signs indicating your shop resembles this scene:

  • People talk about methodology more than features.
  • You're currently building software using products from IBM, Siebel, or Oracle.
  • The development manager and infrastructure manager are two different people, and their manager is located more than 30 feet away.
  • More than 20% of the developers can't solve the FizzBuzz test within 10 minutes.

Signs indicating your shop resembles this scene:

  • You have at least one app in production successfully running on a dynamic language.
  • Developers are the ones pushing specific technology to management; never the other way around.
  • Almost all of the developers sit in the same room or in adjacent offices.
  • Real consequences exist when people don't meet their commitments.
